I echo what Patricia and Tina said. And PCPete makes a great point because navigation is the soul of the site website.

The ability to create a pure CSS vertical dropdown or horizontal menu would be invaluable, and to beable to tie it into a database query

I've had a change of heart about this although I stand by my previous comment. The change is the rise of smart phones. I've noticed that dropdown menus can sometimes be hard to use on small devices, so I've encouraged my clients to consider "big target" menus without dropdowns. For many of my smaller clients, this is a good option that works and results in a phone-friendly site.

I can spend more time working out my navigation than almost any other part of the design process.

Nothing turns users off quicker than a navigation issue, whether it's too much or too little - and menus are familiar to nearly every web user I've seen.

I'm a left-hand-sidebar kinda guy, but if menus were available in EW as a tool like other features are, I'd absolutely use them.

There are quite a few things that would help endear EW to former FP users who are suddenly at sea. I think anything that helps the consumer audience use EW effectively is a plus. I won't vote for these things because I don't think I would use them, but I see their value.

Very mixed feelings on this one, especially especially dropdowns though a simple way of creating #menu a, #menu a:hover, #menu a:visited instead of the javascript based buttons that are a legacy from FrontPage would be very useful.

One of the most important parts of any website is the navigation. Being able to add a good css menu system that is also accessible (especially with resizeable text) would be a great addition to EW. While some of the new add-ins are good they all use absolute positioning which is hard for inexperienced users to edit.

The crux of a web site is always the ability to get around the site which is the navigation, encouraging newbies to use css menus goes towards accessbility. The better the navigation the better the site. Hope this one makes it through.
